Today marks the start of a new project. Working with a local primary school in South Wimbledon I will be creating two new works of art to commemorate the loss of their beautiful Willow Tree. The tree which has resided in the playground for over 50 years and has for many years been the proud emblem of the school sadly had to be pulled down today. For many schools in London space is becoming a premium and with an ever expanding local community the school has no choice but to extend the building to accommodate future pupils. Despite impressive campaigning by the children and parents, an incredibly painful decision had to follow which has ultimately resulted in the tree's demise. Today I was on site as the tree surgeons went to work so I could advise on what parts of the tree to be kept, the artworks created from the wood will be integrated into the new extension in 2015.
